One key difference that we discussed is that simply knowing about someone is based on knowledge and fact (good things in and of themselves), but truly knowing someone is based on experience. Simply put, one involves primarily your mind and the other involves your heart.
In Matthew 15:8, Jesus describes the Pharisees as people who “honor [Him] with their lips,” but have “hearts that are far from [Him].” Now it’s time to be honest… Does this ever describe you? Have you grown up in church and memorized all the “Sunday School answers” about Jesus? If so, that’s great! But do you truly know Him? Have you experienced the power of His love and grace in your own heart and life?
Remember, just knowing about a person doesn’t make you close. In fact, you can know about a person without actually knowing them at all! Just as with any meaningful relationship, to really know someone you have to spend time with them. So...do you want to truly know Jesus? If so, are you willing to commit to taking the time to get to know Him better?
Find inspiration by looking at how God knows you in Psalm 139, then ask Him to give you a heart to follow after Him in a more personal way.
