word: God. That’s right! God is the creator and designer of YOU and everything
around you. And he had NOTHING to work with! Re-read Genesis 1:1-25.
TUESDAY So...what d’ya think? How does the Genesis account of creation match up to what you’ve learned at home, in school, and from books and TV? Some people might try to tell you that the Biblical account of creation was written before the age of modern science and cannot be taken literally. But what they’re forgetting is that God created everything, INCLUDING SCIENCE, which is the study of the physical world. And we have only begun to understand the wonders of what He has done. Read God’s words to Job in Job 38:1-7.
WEDNESDAY So...if God could make anything He wanted in any way He wanted, why, you might ask, did he choose to make us imperfect human beings who all too often make poor choices? Well, according to Genesis 1:26-27, His world was not complete without us! He created us “in His image” to care for—and reflect His glory in—the awesome world He made. Pretty special, huh...especially considering that nothing else in all of creation is given the same position of honor and authority? So how should we respond? Will you choose to honor Him in the way you live and in the way you treat His creation?
THURSDAY Sometimes we get frustrated with ourselves. We think we’re too short, too tall, too heavy, too thin…. We have brown eyes, but we want blue. We have red hair, but we wish for blond. Have you ever stopped to consider the fact that God created you to be uniquely WHO YOU ARE? Of all the people that have ever been created throughout ALL TIME, there’s never been another YOU. If that doesn’t say “you’re awesome,” I don’t know what does! Read more about what God thinks of you in Psalm 139:13-16.
FRIDAY MUCH MORE than how you “look,” God cares about your heart. He designed you with a mind to think and a heart to understand His love for you…a love that would send His own Son to the cross to die in your place. He knows we’re not perfect. If we were perfect, we’d be a bunch of robots walking around! But out of all creation, human beings alone are capable of having a relationship with Him. He designed us uniquely for it, but He will never force us into it. It’s a choice each and every one of us has to make. God loves you beyond any love you can imagine. Will you love Him in return? Will you accept His gift of forgiveness of sins and eternal life in Heaven with Him? Read Ephesians 2:4-5.
SATURDAY Do you still have questions (or even doubts) when it comes to your understanding of how the world and everything in it came to be? Don’t worry! It’s natural, even healthy, to have questions. After all, asking those questions and getting good answers is what will lead you to the truth. Why not take a few minutes to write your questions down. Then make plans to discuss them with someone you trust (your parents, your pastor, a youth leader, or a trusted friend). Be willing to listen and to remember that the “opinion” of the majority is often NOT the truth. Pray over your questions and ask God to give you wisdom and understanding. See Proverbs 2:1-6.
