Tuesday: The Matthew 25 passage (from Monday) talks about reaching out and showing God’s love to the “least of these.” Who are “the least of these” – the forgotten, the passed over, the unnoticed – in your school, your neighborhood, your life? Try to think of a specific way you could reach out during this season. Taking the time to talk (or really listen) to them, giving them a meaningful gift that meets a specific need, offering forgiveness (even if you feel it’s undeserved), patching up a broken relationship?
Wednesday: We hear about a lot about “giving sacrificially” this time of year. What does this really mean? Check out John 15:13 for the ultimate example of sacrificial love. Jesus laid it ALL down for us. And Christmas is a good time to ask ourselves, “What am I willing to lay down (or let go of) for Him (and the people He loves)?”
Thursday: Ever find yourself daydreaming about that latest gadget you’re hoping to find under the tree this year with your name on it? Remember, the latest must-have gifts and high-tech gadgets come and go. But people last forever. Jesus gave up everything to give you the right to be called a “child of the King” and a home in heaven one day. So don’t let “stuff” (or the lack of it) steal your Christmas joy. Remember how RICH you truly are! Read Ephesians 1:3-6.
Friday: So how should we live in this world consumed “getting, not giving” and “me, not you.” Check out Romans 12:2. That’s right, God wants us to be different. So what might that look like? A lot more giving, a lot less getting, for a start. Don’t have a lot of money? No problem. The best gifts are those that don’t cost money! Try to think of some ways you can give yourself (time, talents, encouragement) and bring joy to others this year. Is there someone you know who doesn’t know the true meaning of Christmas? Sharing with them would be a great place to start. Do you know someone who is particularly lonely? How about planning a visit?
Saturday: As you prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior, remember there’s also no better time to prepare for His return. One day, Jesus will come back to take those who have invited Him into their heart and life to their eternal home in heaven. Are you ready? And, if so, are you living in anticipation of His return? Wondering how to do this? See Titus 2:11-14.
