In Matthew 7:21-29, Jesus tells of a day when people who have called themselves Christians, even claimed to have done awesome things in His Name, will stand before God and hear Him say to them, “I never knew you.” This passage makes it very clear that not everyone who calls him or herself a “follower” of Christ truly understands what that means. This week, read the above passage from Matthew 7 and take some time to consider what being a Christian really means to you. These questions might help…
Do I consider myself a Christian because I do the things that Christians typically do? Like...go to church regularly? Pray when times get tough? Read the Bible? Don’t use curse words or take God’s name in vain? Sing Christian music? Etc., Etc., Etc.
When it comes to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, do you feel that you have one? How would you define it? Would you consider it to be casual or committed?
The dictionary defines “fan” as “an enthusiastic admirer,” someone who sits safely on the sidelines, watching every game, but never gets out of the stands and into the game, or someone who “knows every detail there is to know” about their celebrity of choice, but doesn’t know them personally. When it comes to Jesus, are you just a “fan,” or something more?
